Print: There is a problem that print is not as effective as e-media, the way they are combating it is by combining the two. For instance most news papers now have a new site and also you are able to find posters on the web now. So it is working with e-media now and not trying to compete with it.
The guardian news paper has published a article on the movie, reviewing it and talking about how creative the movie was but also mentioned that so aspects of the movie was disappointing. The audience for the guardian is mainly middle-upper class at the ages of 25-50, the importance of this is that I feel the movie has been trying to promote itself to a secondary audience as the first audience is family this article will appeal to the parents of the family and also just to mature adults. It is promoted in a positive and negative way which will leave the reader wondering if it is good or bad and the only way to find out is to watch the film so this is a kind of technique to bring in an audience. Also the independent has also published an article about the movie but not a review as such; it informs the readers about a new game that has a special feature that allows the gamer to explore the train crash both before and after the crash. This is interesting because the audience of the independent is practically the same as the guardian so I don’t think the game is being promoted for the adults themselves to play, but for them to get for their children.
Broadcast: YouTube pose a real threat on broadcasting now as you can access it anytime and there are no restrictions as such to when you are able to see it. It has now developed systems that allow people to record programs which compete with YouTube and also allows consumers to demand what they want to see for instance movies on demand by sky.
Interview by stars movies shown on TV, interviewed the three main boys in the cast where they gave an indication as to what the movie was like and all the twists it has in it, also they spoke about the mysterious monster but left it for suspense so that the viewers would be more interested in watching the movie. Richard Roeper’s review on the DVD makes it out to be disappointing in some cases but also complements the directing and acting by the cast. This shows that although some parts weren’t that good the acting made up for that so it will help appeal to the audience as well.
E-Media: It is very hard to control what you see online and that will cause a problem for most children and their parents. But there are now ways to control what comes up on your screen with things like parental control. Also now most adults are using e-media as well so they have more security about their children using it and plus there is a bigger audience now.
The official website of super 8, it allows people who have seen the movie and people that are interested in seeing the movie to interact. It has a little preview of the movie which shows a lot of action parts which appeal to the audience and also has reviews of the movie by other people which will make them want to see it even more. There is a trailer for the new game portal 2 that appears on YouTube, it shows footage of how you are able to walk around the crash site of the train and explore it. It also shows the monster/ alien breaking out of a sealed compartment in the train but all you see is this mysterious shadow, this attracts the audience to both purchasing the game and also watching the movie.
