Paramount is the main institution behind the movie as it has a very big audience which is made up of mainly a family audience which is probably why they chose this institution to promote this movie as it makes sense seeing as most of the viewers would of seen some of their movies and will instantly be attracted to watching the movie as it ensures that they will probably like this movie as well.

question 4
Whats interesting in the way the characters are portrade on and off the set are quite different. As in the movie they where very professional but in interviews they act like normal children which is good to see as it makes it more easier for both adults and children to identify with them.
Also when they are talking about the making of the film they mention how good it was to work with the producers and directors which is important as the adults will know more about the director and producer and as they have grown up watching their movies it is important that they get a sence that the producers and directors are still the same after all these years and if they are fans of their other movies they will want to watch there work on this movie.
question 3
Print:
Super 8 target audience is a family audience. I know this by the promotional methods they use for the movie. It is shown in a way that will appeal to both children and adults making it a familly movie. For instance in print the observer says 'JJ Abrams meets Spielberg in a nostalgic homage to the films of his childhood. Make sure you stay until the very end' this shows that it will make the adults think back to their childhood so that they can identify with the charectors in the movie. So as well as the chidren being intertained by the antics of the charectors it also brings back memories for the adults watching it aswell. This is also backed up by the fact that the observer is a newspaper that adults usually read so this shows that ht emovie is also trying to branch out to adults because most adults would want to also be entertained when watching a movie with their familly so they look for one that will bring back memories for them and remind them of their own childhood.
Broadcasting:
In this trailer there is lots of action and mysery behind the 'Alien'. I think that this is made to appeal to adult audience as they are the ones paying for the movie so they would also want to be able to enjoy the film as well as the children. I think that this trailer has tried to balance it so that where as there is a lot of action, suspence and mystery behind the movie there is also a sence of adventure and the children having fun whcih will make them feel that this movie is suitable for them and their children.

question 2
Print codes and conventions:
The way the dark sky is taking over the white background connotes that something bad will happen to try and out weigh the good. This shows that in the movie there will be a hero and villian so it raises actions and enigma codes.
There are also reviews done by news papers like the gardian whcih in one of them talks about the movie in contrasting ways. It starts off with 'JJ Abrams's amiable, ever so slightly disappointing mystery adventure is a weird hybrid' this creats an opportunity for the viewers to make up their own mind whcih will mean that they have to go and watch the film themselfs. The way they mentioned it was amiable shows that the movie was still good although it was lacking something. So it is portrade in negative and positive ways which could actually work to the films advantage.
Broadcasting codes and conventions:
this promotes the new movie and it has the three main boys on it which give a little description about the movie and how much they enjoyed working on the set, they also mention that there are a couple of twists and turns in the movie. Also whats interesting is how they act towards eachother as they joke about and talk to eachother like friends not just co-workers which is good for people wtaching as they see the boys as noormal children whcih will make them more interested in seeing the movie as if they have small children themself they can identify with them.
E-Media codes and conventions:
This website is the official super 8 movie website. It is cleverly designed in a way that will appeal to viewers that have already seen the movie and also ones that are interested in seeing it. This allows interaction between both audiences where viewers can post reviews of the movie for the viewers that havent seen it yet. This is good as they will be able to monitor what is said about the movie which is a big problem for them on the web as they normally have no control over it. So they can make sure the movie is portrade the way they want it to be. The website also includes a teaser trailer for the viewers that havent seen the movie. This shows the movie as a very action packed, myserious adventure movie which is obviously what they want to promote the movie as.

question 1
Print: There is a problem that print is not as effective as e-media, the way they are combating it is by combining the two. For instance most news papers now have a new site and also you are able to find posters on the web now. So it is working with e-media now and not trying to compete with it.
The guardian news paper has published a article on the movie, reviewing it and talking about how creative the movie was but also mentioned that so aspects of the movie was disappointing. The audience for the guardian is mainly middle-upper class at the ages of 25-50, the importance of this is that I feel the movie has been trying to promote itself to a secondary audience as the first audience is family this article will appeal to the parents of the family and also just to mature adults. It is promoted in a positive and negative way which will leave the reader wondering if it is good or bad and the only way to find out is to watch the film so this is a kind of technique to bring in an audience. Also the independent has also published an article about the movie but not a review as such; it informs the readers about a new game that has a special feature that allows the gamer to explore the train crash both before and after the crash. This is interesting because the audience of the independent is practically the same as the guardian so I don’t think the game is being promoted for the adults themselves to play, but for them to get for their children.
Broadcast: YouTube pose a real threat on broadcasting now as you can access it anytime and there are no restrictions as such to when you are able to see it. It has now developed systems that allow people to record programs which compete with YouTube and also allows consumers to demand what they want to see for instance movies on demand by sky.
Interview by stars movies shown on TV, interviewed the three main boys in the cast where they gave an indication as to what the movie was like and all the twists it has in it, also they spoke about the mysterious monster but left it for suspense so that the viewers would be more interested in watching the movie. Richard Roeper’s review on the DVD makes it out to be disappointing in some cases but also complements the directing and acting by the cast. This shows that although some parts weren’t that good the acting made up for that so it will help appeal to the audience as well.
E-Media: It is very hard to control what you see online and that will cause a problem for most children and their parents. But there are now ways to control what comes up on your screen with things like parental control. Also now most adults are using e-media as well so they have more security about their children using it and plus there is a bigger audience now.
The official website of super 8, it allows people who have seen the movie and people that are interested in seeing the movie to interact. It has a little preview of the movie which shows a lot of action parts which appeal to the audience and also has reviews of the movie by other people which will make them want to see it even more. There is a trailer for the new game portal 2 that appears on YouTube, it shows footage of how you are able to walk around the crash site of the train and explore it. It also shows the monster/ alien breaking out of a sealed compartment in the train but all you see is this mysterious shadow, this attracts the audience to both purchasing the game and also watching the movie.

movie
I think that the movie super 8 was just a more updated version of his other movie E.T. This is because it followed the same story line as it is about an Alien stuck on Earth that wants to get home but he can’t, so children have to help him. It has a few differences as the Aliens appearance is much more modernised and also the children have little contact with the actual Alien this time and are instead of trying to help him they appear to be running away from him for the majority of the movie.
The Sci-Fi thriller movie has lots of spectacles as even though it is set in the summer of 1979 there are many explosions due to the military getting involved and trying to stop the Alien from getting home. This incidentally makes them the” villains” of the movie and the children known as the heroes as they risk their lives in order to save their loved ones.
This in my view is not his best movie as it is a bit too focused on some points and forgets others, for example the ending appeared to be rushed and not well thought out.
